1. If It Feels Good Do It
Is your car stereo on? Good. Let’s begin…
PATRICK: "This was actually one of the last songs written, but the song has been around in different forms for a while."
CHRIS: "The whole third verse is from one of the first five songs we ever wrote."
PATRICK: "It’s got that drum intro, and the breakdown in the middle which is actually Andrew from the demo. You’re hearing the demo drums through the bass mic, which I put distortion on. And there’s these little violin sounds, which is guitar feedback from the same section, and I sampled all that along with the Sloan chant from our live album. Then, there’s a whole bunch of wah-wah guitar stuff that I cut up and used every second section of… but I hope people don’t think, ‘Oh, Sloan have discovered samplers finally in 2001!’"
CHRIS: "The intro is straight off of Kiss ALIVE III — if you listen to our original demo, it’s just a sample of Paul Stanley doing it, and I redid it."
JAY: "That’s so we wouldn’t have Gene Simmons calling us with a lawsuit."

"the other man" is pop genius and proves sloan to be a world class act. congratulations and best of luck to you. this business can be a bitch sometimes.
feel free to contact. i'd love to know more about what you're up to now? |
| Thats a major opss John. ;)
I smoke it where no one, I mean no one can see me, not at a concert... that would be the last place I choose.
weed is great for my horrible stress streaks.
Lucky you to be at a concert :))

Sloan , I think you're the Beethoven's of our time!..Heh heh..A little Rock n-roll high school for ya.. hope all the boys are doing well..Rock on!! Your show back in May in Chicago was F@#$ing excellent..Despite the fact that my brother and i were kicked out for smoking weed...oooOoOpS!!! (Fucking Metro Nazis!!)He heee..but hey, We managed to see the meajority of the show..And it was incredible as usual..I had talked to a friend who said that it was a "mediocre -at-best" show, and that you guys looked "road Weary"..Well, why shouldn't you be?? Touring does that to ya, am I right?? And the fact that you guys still put on a hell of a show, despite being road weary, means that you guys rule all the more.. Goodbye, So Long. john |

| I just saw the video for "If It Feels Good Do It" on MTV2 last night. I nearly had a heart attack. I have felt like a voice in the wilderness while screaming at lame imitations of Sloan by such bands as The Strokes. at last, MTV, at least M2, is showing the real thing. Is this some kind of rebirth for the album in the US? |
| This may be the greatest song I've ever heard. |
| "IF IT FEELS GOOD DO IT" - rawknrol like nobody does anymore.(or so it seems)KISS MEETS THE CAPTAIN and TENILLE(sic?) - devils horns up, boys.........lookin 4ward to bowery ballroom, friday! |

Andy, I am allowed to download MSN but not right now...I'm too sore and tensed, and feel kinda sick... I wish I had someone here to make me feel better.
Ah.. I'm gettin' romantic stuff in my head now.. This thought of havin' Jay beside me now and gettin' me feel soooo much better. *sigh* That ain't happenin'... Or would I ever see Sloan in concert ?... *sigh*..... Anyways, should go now.. Bye byeee
~Peace*Love~
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |

| Ohhh Andy, I had MSN but I uninstalled it. I have to ask my parents if I can install it again.. I'll let you know soon.

| hey u! mcmaster!! add my to your MSN! i added u but i da know if it worked. any whoooo. keep up the rock'n |
| Yea, as a matter of fact I have sented a letter to Jay but I never got a reply back and thats a little over a year now. I guess it was "too" romanatic one I think, maybe thats why he didn't reply. Or I still think that I putted the wrong address on the envelope. I had to find out the address from Mike Nelson by email and he said it will probalby be in but.. I dunno. I am kinda disappointed. I was really and still am lookin' forward on a reply...
Why does everythin' wrong has to happen or somethin' really disappointin' ??
~Peace*Love~
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
| Okay, so I'm just curious -- has anyone out there ever sent Sloan anything (like a "fan letter" or a present) and gotten any response back?
My sister & I sent Jay & Chris some cool T-shirts (not cheap, I might add) as tokens of our appreciation/admiration like 6 months ago & we never got any response. Not that we were expecting big things or some kind of pen-pal exchange w/ them , but "thank you" would've been nice... Anyone have better luck w/ them? |
| Thanks Pop Tart! That really helped. :)
Why do I allways not understand those kind of things ? *blunt*
Thanks again Pop Tart ! *double smiles*

Hey Kathleen, I should be working on pressing school stuff, but I'm happy to explain Jay's "Gene Simmons" quote to you instead. :-)
Gene Simmons is the freakish long-tongued guitarist from KISS (the band Chris is referring to when he says "The intro is straight off of Kiss ALIVE III"). Now, why would Jay joke about Gene Simmons wanting to sue Sloan? Well, if Sloan sampled part of a Kiss album without permission, that would be grounds for a copyright infringement suit (read: they could be accused of stealing someone's stuff without giving them proper credit/payment).
Make sense? Hope that helps! |
| *laughs* Thats allright, 3 posts is better than 1 :).
Concentrated OJ.. I only found out like, a year ago that OJ means orange juice.. *laughs Yes, I don't like juice with the pulp in it.. ak!. Maybe OJ means the OJ Simpson trial.. lol
Yea, Sloan should play in the Nova Scotia area again for old times sake. Now they are goin' to bigger cities, etc.. and they are forgetin' us ):. Not really forgetin' but, ya know.
If there was this vote on which place Sloan should tour next month or whatever, Nova Scotia should be one of the choices. And if there ever is one *doubt it* <-- perhaps there was.. I would keep votin' for Nova Scotia like millons of times makin' the percentage higher. But,sometimes those votin' things only let ya vote once though ):..
You know, life is a werid thing. And some people can be so damn ignorant too. Even on that Sloan message board.. makes me so mad! Well, I guess I can't put up with it no more, I'm just goin' to browse around to get information on what I need about Sloan. And the things some people on there say about Sloan, geeezzzzz.
Oh yea, I was meanly to ask what this means but, oh well. Where Jay says at the top of this tracktalk: "That’s so we wouldn’t have Gene Simmons calling us with a lawsuit."<-- Who's Gene Simmons and why would he be in a lawsuit?- Is he a lawyer or what ? -I dunno, but me confused.. *laughs
~Peace*Love~

whoops i put that there 3 times o well at least i got the message across (no pun intended) p.s. don't ask about the nick names lol |

Eh? I've been waitin' so long, and patiently for them to come back to Nova Scotia. Seemly, when they do come here, I don't know about it or, I am sick in bed.. either one makes me miss a show. When they came to Antigonish, N.S<--- where I live man! I was sick at the time and I never knew about it! I never went to a concert yet, I feel so out of place man!- I am a awful fanatic fan of their's but, I can't even get to a show!! I think I am lossin' da grip on the wheel..
Next school dance .. we get the oppunitity to get Serial Joe play at our dance but, I want Sloan man!
I remember a dance last year I went to and our Home band "Trousers" was playin' and I was at yellin' at the top of my lungs like a wild person. I think everyone was hearin' me 'cause it became kinda silent at da time.. *laughs But, I mean it man, if Sloan was the band playin' at our school, I'll be the loudest of them all I'm tellin' ya. I'll be like, doin' burnin' twists, and makin' moves like never before man!! I probably be wearin' my dark blue dress that like goes into a swirl motions when you turn around in it! it's my fave one and It's cool how it does that!!bring out the energy baby!! oh yea! right on!! wohoooohoooooooohooo rRRrRRrrrrrRRrrrRrrR... yah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *laughs

| Well, the album has been out for a while now, and I'm glad to see the sloaners are still eating it up. Pretty Together got some flack here in Calgary as being boring and pompous...oh please--Pretty Together is a tall walking bitch of an album that one could only be richer for hearing, and I'm proud of the boys for having the solid gold balls to do it. Come back to Calgary, we're waiting patiently. |

Yes, spread it to the world, yea, I am awful in grammar!!!!!! Yea, I am a Sloan fanatic, totally. Ahhhhhhhhhh, deadly PC?- I just checked my computer for viruses last week. Yea, pretty deadly. Last time I had 124 virsues!! Pretty alot, eh?- No wonder my computer was freezin' every minute of the day and still does by high amount of memory lost from my computer. Enough with that lets talk: Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan,, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, Sloan, and more SLOAN!
*laughs, I am crazy in a good way* :)

Greetings world! As of this month I see the Yanks and the Aussies will be picking up this album and spinning it in their players. Then they'll be checking out this site to find out stuff about the songs. They will also have the pleasure of meeting Ms Zebrazinger MacMaster, our number one Sloan-a-holic, armed with a deadly pc, and an apparent lack of grammar, but who's checking really? Now then people, dig deep. Somewhere in our friendly community chit-chatting and chin wagging there is actual important information about each song, brought to you by your friendly neighbourhood Sloan fans. Welcome to the club! ('_') |
| Yea babbbby, Sloan rulez ^ to heaven!!! C'mon back to Nova Scotia!! Yea, come to all parts here too ;)
Later LAter LATer LATEr LATER!!

My real name that bad eh Andrew? No, I ain't Chris nor Jay, Andrew or Patrick. Yea, I don't like my name );, people make fun of it... Ummm Cathleen MacMaster?? playin' da flute?( maybe there is)- you must be thinkin' of Natalie MacMaster playin' da fiddle. No, I ain't related to her, maybe..
I don't think it will happen if Chris fall in love with Jay 'cause, I love him so, that tells ya I ain't Chris. And, Chris ain't a 17 year old girl livin' in a small town at Antigonish, N.S. The chances of me beein' Chris ain't even close to a percentage. One more thing, Chris has 30,000,000% better at grammar than I am, no doubt about that. Anyways, I'm just a little girl in a lonely world....

| i'am back! long time no read your massages or something. i think u are chris muphy, "mary cathlenn mac master", what kind of a name is that. come on chris. u could have don alot better than simply choozing a fake name from the back af a reta macnlean album. "flute played by mary cathleen macmaster" pfff! |
| Newsflash Stuart: if you're doing a "project on this song", by which I assume you mean a school assignment, maybe you should get your own ideas & write the paper based on that, rather than looking to a message board to do the work for you...
If, on the other hand, you're writing something about the phenomenon of online message boards, then everything that gets posted on this board is valid. You may not like Kathleen's messages, but they're *her* expression of her "fandom"...BTW, read the messages carefully & you'll find plenty of comments on the songs themselves. |
| Allright.. fair enough. My comments don't make any sense and so on.. well.. sorry, I won't anymore.. bye
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
can any one say something about the song, i am trying to write a project on this song, but you all are talking about how much you all wish you could be married to "Sloan", i need some solid comments about this song. Oh and Marry i am sorry to hear about your sad life. But please it makes me sad to see how many comments you have on here that are about nothing |
No problem. Anyways, I am on the board 24/7 and, my nick is HighlightEyes. Yea I know alot of posts are really sick and out of my limits but, I just try to ignore them. Anyways, it's cool knowin' my fave radio station (101.5 the hawk in Porthawksbury is playin' "The Other Man" constantly. Every day it is liked played now. Maybe it's by the 5 emails a day a email them. :) La8 hun
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
| Thanks for the offer Kathleen, but I've checked out what goes on at the Official Sloan Msg Board & I have no desire to interact with those morons.
Once in a while, I read their inane postings to see if there's any Sloan news I'm missing, but it's mostly them hurling childish insults at each other...Nothing whatsoever to do with the band & a total waste o' my time. Plus, I have a sneaking suspicion that 95% of them are middle-aged "graphic novel" collectors like "Comic Book Guy" on the Simpsons... ;-) |
Oh yea, I came back on the "Offical Sloan Message Board"-My nick is BirlGirl68. If ya like to come aboard, it'll be great to see ya. You may get some bummpy rides on the way there but, oh well.. it's worth the trip *Smiles* You might even fall in the icy cold waters of the Atlantic ocean! but, theres always a life guard around.. some where.. *laughs. I'll protect you hun *~(¤:×:«HUGZ»:×:¤)~* me hugged ya!!! a magical hug, yuppie! :))
-Mary Kathlen MacMaster |
| Flattered somewhat.
Yea, I hope Sloan wins both nominees. I mean, they deserve it alot. I will pray for them. :) God will help them.
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
| Personally, I'd be flattered if people thought I was Chris Murphy in disguise. Speaking of whom... Chris, on the off-chance that you read the postings on this site, I'd like to ask when you plan to wear your "Full Grown Man" shirt in public? ;-)
Oh,and congrats to Sloan on the 2 Juno noms - let's hope the Juno "powers that be" are smarter than those voting at the ECMA's. |
Awww, thank-you for da sweet comment hun. :) Yea, I know about da Chris Murphy thing. When I was on da board (Not any more), I was beein' called that I was him. Well.. it really doesn't make a difference to me 'cause.. I don't know *laughs. I mean, he is a man, I am a girl. His a singer, me student. His popular, i'm not. <-- see da difference :)) Anways this whole discussion on about that really is um...different..*smiles* thats all I can say. :)
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
| Har de har Mary Kathleen! Such a sharp wit!
And speaking of sharp wits...did you know that some folk on the original Sloan message board think that you, M.K. MacMaster, are actually Chris Murphy in disguise? Just wonderin' what you thought about that... |
Ummm right Pop Tart :))) Can I put you in da toaster now? ;)
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
| Sorry if I offended by acting like the "grammar police". In the tradition of one Chris Murphy, I am a stickler for proper spelling. You know, "I told her 'affection' has 2 'F's, especially when you're dealing with me." ;o) But you all are free to spell as horribly as you like, as I am free to be bugged by it... |
Awww Andrew! Don't have to get worked up sweetie over that :) *Laughs, I am a terrible person in grammar I've been told that! :)) Anways, suP with you these days?- Nothin' much goin' on with me, same old thing. School early as 6:30 in da mornin', shovin' da snow- next mornin I am sore.. *laughs. Doin' homework where I don't have a clue what I am doin, *giggles*. Hmmm.. funny how it is, I was da top speller in younger grades, I am going down hill like a roller coaster. #sniff# I miss beein' a little bit high in something in school );. Anways, thats life.. *laughs. La8 And.. :))
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
| I do meen "got the deals"!!! havent you ever heard people say "oh, you got the dealz" when you do something good!!???!! |
| Yuppie! Instead of US Canadians knowin' our adoreable Sloan, da Americans will too! Makin' more little Sloan fans then ever... awwwww. Sooner or later it will be like "Whats your fave band?" da reply would be "Sloan of course". I can't wait to live to that day!!.
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
| "They go the Deals"? Huh? Oh...does that mean "they got the deal"? What is it about these message boards that causes people to lose the ability to spell? Pet peeve of mine, sorry... :-(
Anyways, yes, congrats to Sloan for the U.S. record deal - it's the dawn of a new age! Sloan are finally getting their due! Went to the Strokes show in Vegas & spent most of my time in the line-up telling all the arrogant American kids that Sloan are the best band in the world. They hadn't heard of our boys, but now it's only a matter of time... Big ups Sloan! ;-) |
| Yup, thats right Andrew. I am so proud for them!! lalalalla... way 2 GO guys! *Smiles*
-Mary Kathleen macMaster |
| WoOooOoohOOooooO Jeff, thats da spirt!! oh baby yea!! *laughs.
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
| This song is classic Sloan! Plenty of great hooks. I love this song! |
| Sloan règne vraiment et j'espère une certaine heure où ils viendront à Antigonish encore:)
hehe I am learnin' alot of french, it's cool. Let me translate that.. Sloan really rules and I hope some time they will come to Antigonish again. :)
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
| Andrew, what are ya babblin' about now?!? *laughs. Who said I hate Patrick? more like he hates me.. hehehe, kiddin'!
aWWW... Haligonian, I know whatcha mean. I don't live in Halifax but, pretty near (Antigonish) *laughs. Don't ya worry, I am sure they will come back to Halifax just pray to God and they will :))))). Leave it up to Jay and he'll come back, a little bit of flirtin' and sayin' how much of a cute, sexxxy man he is and BOOM! their there, *laughs! Don't take me up wrong on this Jay!! I am good girl, really, wahhh don't spank me sweete, you wouldn't hurt meee would ya? gimme a kiSSie!!!;) back to da subject *laughs!. Well.. I guess I am imaginin' a little off line here. :) Don't give ^ your faith & hope. Just like I am tryin' to keep my faith into meetin' them in concert. Faith mostly allways wins into somethin' u want best for to happen. Anyways, give ya my luck into that happenin' :))))))) woohoo, Sloan rock ^ to heaven!! *smiles*
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
| Yeah guys? i was checking out the website and found out that their isn't anytime you guys are coming back to Halifax! Everywhere else in Canada but Home. I see how it is...
? |
Cynthia, we are all Sloan fans that have the same Sloandom fandom. But, I suppose we all have our levels on the band *wink* That is, different levels, emotions etc.. over a CERTAIN member ;) You all know by now who my CERTAIN member is :)))))))))))) MmMMmmM.... *laughs. someone slap moi pleazeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :)) swing it, shake it, move it, make it... lalala
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |

| I must say that I am by far the biggest Sloan fan. Not only do I have my walls plastered in Sloan pictures and songs, I have the best tattoo of Chris Murphy on my lower back, which hur like hell and took hours, but is in fact the best thing that I have ever done. |
| You said it, slowworm. I think Patrick has been coasting ever since "I Can Feel It". Ironic, since he claims "Twice Removed" is his least favorite album...
He writes the "rockers" that get the radio airplay alright, but his songs feel rather emotionally vacant to me, like he just can't be 'bothered' anymore... |
| okay, it's an uptempo little rock number, and a bit catchy at that. but patrick can only write two songs: the "rocker" (this one, losing california, friendship) and the "filler acoustic ballad" (i'm not done with you yet, your dreams have come true. although ican feel it was actually really good). zzzz... |
Sorry about my really-long comment that somehow got posted 3 times! And stupidly enough, it had nothing to do with "If it feels good do it". I must agree, that it doesn't have the greatest video, but maybe Sloan saw it as the best way to prove their point. Everyone has different opinion of what rock is all about, and they've tried everything to try and figure out 'what rock is all about.'so, since the're tired of trying to figure it out, they're just saying hey, 'if it feels good, do it'. |
| Sloan is my favourite band in the whole wide world. Before I read all of these interesting comments, I thought that I was a #1 Sloan fan. I have the heart for it , but I barely even know anything about them compared to everyone else here! Looks like I'll have to put my act together. But, please, do forgive me because I've only become a major Sloan fanatic this year. Not to say that i only like their new stuff, however. It all started with my older sister Laura, when she was about 12-13. She abosolutely loved Sloan, and at the time I thought they were okay, and didn't realize how greatful I should be for such high-quality sound, in vocals and instruments. Then, after I had got over my backstreet boys phase(eww) I came to appriciate Sloan's unique, creative sound a little more. As i was slowly developing into a Sloan fanatic, highschool came.(and my boy-band taste was totally deleted) I first met people in my homeroom when we got a tour of our highschool. I noticed 1 or 2 guys were making funny remarks about stuff, and I became interested in getting to know them better. These two guys were walking behind me for the tour, when i finally saw what the one guy looked like. He was skinny, looked kind of geeky, until i noticed his glasses. It took me a moment, then i realized...he has Chris Murphy glasses! I was then even more intrigued to get to know him better, and he seemed to be nice. You see, i was still in in gr.8 and this was at our highschool orientation. in the past,i've found guys to contantly tease me... i was usually shy with them and had never had any guy-friends. Then, my first day of gr.9 came. it just so happened that his locker was next to mine...and when he and his friend opened his locker he had a picture of Alf inside.(You know, that 80's-early 90's sitcom character.) I found that to be funny, because it was so unexpected and i laughed. His friend said something like' You gotta get used to Nolan, he's kind of weird. He has an obsession with Alf.' Not thinking it was weird at all (kind of cute, actually)I said "Don't worry , I've met weirder.' His reaction was a smile, and he headed off to class, leaving me with a fairly good start to an awesome friendship that I never thought would happen. He was also in my 1st period class, geography, and when the seating plan changed in late September, I got to sit beside him in the back row. As i got to know Shawn and Nolan more and more with short, word-exchange conversations, i became close to the to them. For some reason, this kind of triggered me to not only get to know them better, but to get to know Sloan better, too. On the radio, i always put it on full blast when they play Sloan.(I listen to Edge102) I have the cd's 'One Chord to Another' and 'Pretty Together'. I got the CD 'one Chord to Another' first because i knew the songs on that album the best. After i had listened to it varoius times, analyzed each lyric, sound and voice, i was ready for a new Sloan Cd. My sister has most of their Cds, so until i save up some money to get my own, i borrow them off of her. i'm now extremely obsessed with getting to know sloan's sense of style and history better, I want my room decorated with Sloan pictures and i RREEAAAALLLYYYY want to go to one of their concerts. Now, not to get off topic, but i think my comment is getting way too long. So here's my basic analysis on what I think of Canada's best rock band SLOAN..... their music is has a breath-taking, ultimate 1-in a million sound, they're the 4 best-looking guys on this side of the planet, and i want to congradulate them on all of their hard-work and dedication into making their own sound, that is always pleasing to my ears, no matter what mood I'm in. SLOAN, I hope you keep on getting more reconition, and keep on making the best music that I'm sure anybody will ever hear in a life time. You have supportive, dedicated fans, who admire your style and ways of expressing inner thoughts and feelings. I love Sloan:) |

He has an obsession with Alf.' Not thinking it was weird at all (kind of cute, actually)I said "Don't worry , I've met weirder.' | Nope. Never saw the "performance-only" version on TV. And it's a crying shame too, because it's much more enjoyable than the "what does rock'n'roll mean to you?" version... |
| I did watch that version, and I like it. Did it get airplay? |
| Hey Ian, you might be interested to know that if you go to the "multimedia" section of this site, you can view an alternate "performance-only" version of the "If It Feels Good Do It" video. All the extraneous jabber from the various "hipsters" has been taken out & you're left with pure, unadulterated Sloan-y goodness. ;) Just thought you might want to check it out, given your astute assessment of the original version... |
Hey thanks. Yeah, I recently compiled a short-list of my favourite songs of all time, you know, just for fun, and because the song was released at the right place and the right time, for me, I included "If It Feels Good Do It" (along with Lemon Zinger) on the list. But, I feel embarassed because most people know the song from the video, which is so godawful that when I'm watching it, I almost want to agree with whoever thinks the song sucks. It's a fucking Gap commercial. For me, that song is still burned into my mind from when they did it at the Kool Haus. The Dears were shite, the Jeep giveaway was shameless, I was stoned and I was pissed. That song made it aaaaaall better. It never changes key, but the stops and starts make you feel like stuff is happening - but the fact that all the main hooks surround the same few chords allows them to pile them together at the end for an incredible climax starting with "I can't invest my time / I tried it all and I'm tired of trying / saw it all and I can't deny / it's a hard life living a lie!" then the main riff, then the secondary riff (and in the performance video of the song, the chorus again), then the G Turns To D style ending. Spectacular. I love this whole song so much, that it's pretty much Won't Get Fooled Again 2001 for me. Also, lyrically, the song exemplifies the band's new "pure pop, no irony" approach, and I think the rock world needs this. The whole world does, really. It almost sounds like Patrick and Chris are taunting some chick that they both went out with, and they're like, teaching her a lesson. She complicates her life with crap, but if she would simply follow the rule, if it feels good do it, and don't let people mess you 'round - she wouldn't be fleeing back to Halifax. Sorry, baby. They can't invest their time. They tried it all, and they're tired of trying. Saw it all and I can't deny - it's a hard life living a lie!!!!!! (crowd noises)!! I fuckin' love it. Every album has an Underwhelmed clone or two (except Twice Removed), but this is by far the most triumphant. Also, has anybody else noticed that on this album, the guys don't seem to care when notes clash? It makes it more rocking. I heard that they were experimenting with digital editing, and that's apparent when you hear the video version, and also when Chris starts wailing at the end of "Who You Talkin' To" - it's probably the same take from earlier in the song, transplanted. Anyway, yeah, I'm not obsessed. Back to studying |
| ian i love what you said about the video. so true. |
| I Swear My name is matt sloan.. hey im 16 and ive been a sloan fan since i was 10! i need you guys to come back to the maritimes!!! new brunswick maybe? fredericton maybe? by the way i love the new album!
REMBEMBER, "NEW BRUNSWICK" |
| I almost forgot to add - the video for this song is as putridly horrible as the song is excellent. It plays like a Gap commercial, and reduces the song's sincerity to pseudo-commercial garbage. Wow, it sucks. People talking about rock and roll drowning out actual rock and roll. Maybe I should stand in front of a great work of architecture and dance about it. |
| Even though this is an incredible, incredible album, this song remains my favourite. I have never heard a more sincere ode to rock ever in my whole life. When Chris and Patrick team up, they are an unstoppable force. If you stood between their vocal monitors you would be killed. It's like they were sent from the future to deliver a message of If It Feels Good Do It. When I hear this song, I take it as an ORDER. Every single damn time. Amen. |
| i see Mary Kathleen has found her way here as well. :) |
| Great New Rock! I hope you guys can make it down to Florida, I saw you with The Sheila Divine at the Saphire Supper Club in Orlando. Great Show....would love to see you down here again....this time TAMPA! |
| the new album rocks, all of it, wish i could see it live... 'nuff said |

Yikes! The atmosphere is getting tense! It's starting to feel like all the bad vibes & bitchiness on the Official Sloan Message Board! Let's not lose the love, eh? 'wink, wink' ;-)
And to return to the topic of "If It Feels Good Do It", I'd just like to say that Jay & Andrew rock that video *hard*! Woo-hoo! I could watch Andrew adjusting his collar & Jay star-kickin' in his shirt & tie all day long... (but, just for the record, I have non-Sloan related things to keep me busy too) ;-) |

Excuse me.? you find me annoying.? Well I know when I am disliked and, I get alot of this from people. And no, I do more than go on here and have a friendly discussion. I take care mostly of the house hold I live in and I do chores and work part time to support this place. I have to, we are poor and I sometimes like to come on here to have some fun and to forget about my arthritis at least. And, if you got some sort of problem with who I am, and what I talk about well.. go ahead and think that way. I got one thing to say " If you got something rude to reply, don't say it at all" and, I love Sloan, the way I express my feelings and thoughts is mine. And my love for Jay is mine also. A question: What considered you to think of me beeing annoying? - I do ANYTHING to help Sloan. I respect them for who they are and, I wouldn't torment them to deaf neither. Over my love for Sloan and Jay, does not include me as beeing the annoying one as you replied. I never think no one is annoying.. and I don't reply comments out of the way neither when they shouldn't been heard. Again, keep your rude comment to yourself.. And don't think I hate you either, I love you for who you are but, don't reply of me beeing annoying 'cause, why would I change of who I am over someone else?
-Mary Kathleen MacMaster |
| i find two people on this site to be annoying... andrew paskievich and mary kathleen mac master. don't you have better things to do? now there's three types of people in the world. a non sloan fan, a sloan fan, and an annoying, obsessive sloan fan. and when you are dressing exactly like jay from sloan... guess which one you are....... |
Awww.. Timmerbo :)). All of our opinions are kepted above us. Someone likes this song, another person disgraces it. It's all part of satisfaction. And, alot of times some pupils judge each song on a album and automatically there is this certain one that is your # hit list. And people, like me, who think all songs on the album(s) are all the best :)).. but.. I do.. fancy one song a little more than the rest.. hehe, okay I guess I ain't one of them. :)) But my little point I am trying to point out is that everyone has their own likes & dislikes. :)) Tell me so I didn't ramble off this time.. heheh :))

| penguin - Just because you think Money City Maniacs is one of Sloan's best songs doesn't mean that you aren't a true fan... I love I Hate My Generation, Autobiography, and What's There To Decide just as much as I love MCM but that doesn't mean I don't think MCM should be considered one of their tunes. It is 'radio-oriented', like 'It Feels Good Do It', but it definitely manages to make me feel 'pumped' with one listen. Ah well, I like all their music, it's all great. |
..... I feel out of place when I hear someone meets Sloan in person.. ): I hope Jay is doing really good, bless you Jay!!

i would just like to say that i am the gretest sloan fan ever. i own all their albums, have a collection of posters and even the sloan video "second hand views". i have all their autographs and have met them all. at a show chris called me up to play bass for "underwhelmed. andrew scott also gave me his drum sticks!! |
| Hey! Very good song, I loved it from the first time. A kind of Money city manics and Losing California songs. A good 70's classic rock n' roll song. Patrick, please, you have to wright some other songs like this one, we need them. |
| A classic Sloan rave-up and album starter. "underwhelmed", "people of the sky", "the good in everyone", she says what she means", and this one could be on an EP with "money city maniacs" called SLOAN ANTHEMS. |
ahem... i've recently moved to nyc from toronto.. and feeling a little homesick i ofcourse wanted to see sloan play on 11/19/01, i have seen them play 8 times previous and i wasn't sure quite what to expect from an "american crowd" (only there was plenty of canadians there). i brought an american friend that was like "sloan?".. anyways, she was blown away, and i was so amazingly pleased with the show, i was very proud to be canadian.. and i can't wait to be back home to see sloan play in toronto so that i can here everybody sing along louder than chris himself... i love that. anyways.. just saying i'm proud to be canadian..yada yada.. (fan from 1993(approx.)-present) |

Only a few times in life can a music fan hope to hear a song for the first time, and immediately think, "WOW...INCREDIBLE" With Sloan, I've thought that too many times to count. The first was WAY back...I was about 12 or 13 at summer camp in Yarmouth(those from NS will know Yarmouth). I heard Underwhelmed for the first time, and have been hooked on the quartet and their music ever since. Growing up in Halifax, I've followed Sloan's career with interest. There's no time like the Present, that's all I can say about that. Now I'm 22, and it seems to me like Sloan's FINALLY getting the recognition I've thought they deserved since 1991. Great job, boys...keep up the amazing work.
Fav album...Twice Removed Fav song(s)...Bells On(Twice Removed), Seems so Heavy(Navy Blues) -*just to name two*-
YOU GUYS ROCK...The last great Rock n' Roll band. |
I just saw the Sloan show in NYC (11/19) and it was the best show I have ever seen!! Hard to believe that Britney Spears has an HBO special and Sloan is playing small venues in the US. It just goes to show how screwed up the industry is. I recommend to all Slaon fans that they make sure to see them live! Thank You! |

My Dick is 400 Metres, what is ur favorite sloan album? i hope ur not 1 of those guys who only likes "underwhelmed" or"money city maniacs".that usually what i get when i tell someone my favorite band is sloan(i like sloan, money city maniacs rocks)they never seem 2 know that sloan has lots of good tunes.1 of my favs is pen pals off twice removed, and i'll bet that u die hard sloan fans don't think money city maniacs is 1 of sloans best tunes.that's how i find out the true sloan fans neway. Give pretty together a chance and i think if ur a real sloan fan u'll learn 2 really like it |

I am the greatest Sloan fan ever!! Chris is the greatest rocker ever!! |
| Great Show in Winnipeg ! I went nuts. Chris called me up to play the bass and he allso gave me a drum stick! Sloan!!!Sloan!!!Sloan!!! |
| I love this song very much indeed, though I do agree that the riff resembles 'Get Ready' by Rare Earth. |
| If the new album were a cassette or record I would have warped it by now from listening to it so much. And I've only owned the cd for 9 days! To me this song sums up not only what Sloan's rockin' tunes are about, but what rock is about. If I could go back in time to let Mozart hear a rock tune I would choose this one. Typical, but a classic goody! |
| Late at night here in Pennsylavnia trying to get snibbits of the new cd over realplayer8 of course had to download 4mb of add-ons until it CAME STREAMING IN. Good stuff on this latest disc. The one guy was right about driving faster with a little Sloan cranking. Every time I am driving around the backroads around here listening to Sloan I surely want to keep cruising upwards towards Nova Scotia right? Doug out. |
| one more thing , the gig at the Kool Haus was amazing ! I enjoyed all the new stuff and old . The guys put on a great show . |
| I thought Patrick had a girlfriend or something ? ;) are all those guys hitched ? does anyone know? |
| This song reminds me of "The good in everyone" in the sense that it is going to be the hit of the Cd, but I think it is kinda boring. |
| Yea Andrew, Patrick is gay. *smiles* Just Kiddin', gay as in happy :) H*a*p*p*y Hallowen everyone! woohoo! I'm going to my bro's appartment with some of his other chums, nothing major. A get together thing.. lots of Sloan mu$ic. :) my treat.. Bye byee

Hey sloan, I love the new album! Really really awesome!! The Toronto concert on Oct. 25th was sooo rockin'! By FAR, the best concert I've ever been to! An amazing band, a great set list, and of course, great fans! :) It was so nice getting to meet Patrick and Jay after the concerts and getting our shirts signed! (yay!) Great work guys!! |
I totally agree with the last guy who almost came, this song is the bomb. Other songs that are great ont this album include Pick it up and dial, the other man and pretty much everysong. Keep on listening and remember SLOAN RULES FOREVER!!!!!!! |

At the kool haus, the Dears really sucked and there was this Jeep givaway bullshit, and I was stoned and so damn pissed off, I was booing. I wanted Sloan. So when they came on and launched into If It Feels Good Do It, I almost came. This song is pure excellence, an undisputed classic only a couple months after its release. The first time I listened to the album I didn't understand why the band felt that it sounded like any shoegazer at all, but I now realise that the Chris/Patrick harmonies are slightly reminiscent of Ride, but only slightly - and Sloan are way better than Ride. |
| hello everyone,
sorry for the off topic posting but I just wanted to inform all the Sloan fans here that I have started a Sloan mailing list on Yahoogroups.com. I noticed that there were no Sloan discussion lists there and just one Special announcement list, so I decided to finally start one with news, info, and pics. I just started it last night so I'm the only member but i hope to get a lot more soon.
to join go to: http://yahoogroups.com/subscribe/Sloan
Thanks and Cheers, Sheila |

| Okay , i new at this message board here , so i thought i would leave my thoughts on the new album. Being a huge fan of sloan since "Peppermint" ( being there first album ) I became a sloan follower. I love there music. Every album following that one seemed to get better , they seemed to be advancing there sound. My fav album by far is "Twice Removed" ... as well as the two disc live album . Between the bridges did have some catchy tunes , but it seemed to me that the "Usual" sound of sloan had changed , not dramatically , but it was noticable. "Pretty Together" i just purchased. My honest reaction ? If it feels good do it , GREAT song . I thought , "Wow , Sloan is back in full force!" Then i listen to the other tracks . I must say , when did Sloan decide to go "Folk" on us ? It was a dissapointment . I found the Cd to be sappy almost . This is just my opinion though :) I'm going to be seeing Sloan this evening at The Kool Haus and i am praying that there set will consist of the usual classic , toe tapping , jump up and down tunes . And they better play "She says what she means" because that tune is amazing. Anyways , i still appraciate sloan to death , they are all very talented guys . Although i have stated my dissapointment , i still think they rock ! |
| You people are delusional. This album sucks ass. Where did they write this shit? Was it while soaking in a hot bath? I think they lost it because there in not one really rocking song on this album. |
Lick Arse first single! what's rock n roll about? It's about being yourself. It's about doing what you want to do and not caring about what anyone else thinks. that's my motto in life! anyway, the song is great, the album is great, the band looks good.....all is well in the world of Sloan. |
| You should have had that old man from the first track of the live album in this song. That stuff was gold. |
| This song increased my work productivity by 300% in the last week and increased my offroad driving speed from 5 mph to 15 (sometimes up to 25) mph! There is new damage on my "vehicle" that can definitely be attributed to this song. My advice is listen sparingly and don't attempt Chris-style scissorkicks while driving. |
| My favourite song I think I will love is "Are You Giving Back My Love". I heard some halfs of each song.. and I like this one the best. It's so beautiful...
I can't wait until I recieve the album on my birthday *November.16th, woohoo!

| what is the setlist like these days |
| this is a rock anthum not to be for gotten. the new "money city maniacs". |
| wow... this song makes me excited for sloan like when i was a teenager. i'm more excited about seeing sloan this time around in t.o. than i was the very first time i saw them at a local high school in moncton, n.b. :)
you guys rock. i can't stop listening to the disk. i have had my headphones on at work the entire day! |
| Hey I was at the horseshoe tavern for the joel plaskett concert and i saw patrick there. it looked like he was picking up a couple chicks so i didnt go up to him. the show was good and ill be at the kool haus..stupid name. By chance is that danko jones in feels good do it video? |
| the hole album rocks. i cant wait to see the boys in november. |
| This song just plain rocks!
Only one problem: It just reminds me of the fact that I'll probably never see Sloan live... Lousy Dallas, TX. |
| Well this is a great example of "Canadian Rock" at its best! In the video the boys do a few "Who" moves on their guitars at the closing moments of the song! I have seen the lift of arms after a chord has been played on some original Who songs! Can't wait for the tour! |
| this is a great song, a very nice rock anthem. vintage sloan. |
| I saw Chris and Patrick outside the Friar and Firkin across from Muchmusic last week. I was going to go over and tell you guys that I saw the first single, and I'm really excited about the forthcoming album (tomorrow), but I'm a big fucking panzy, so I didn't.
Regardless: I saw the first single, and I'm really excited about the forthcoming album (tomorrow).
I thought it was especially cool how you guys had that dude from the Local Rabbits in the video. Stomp your BKs down.
Nav
p.s. If you guys see me in the street, don't be afraid to approach me like I was to approach you. |
*big kiss for jay* happy b-day! I spent my day celebrating your brithday wandering around in the rain on queen west trying to find my friends, I never did. ha! ah well! life is good, have a good one. take it easy, sarah Toronto, Canada |
| Hehe, 33 more days until I get the album, hopefully. My birthday present, woohoo! :)
-Mary Kathleen Mac Master |
| Only 2 more days!!!!!!!!! |
| Love the new song and have finally seen the video. It's great to see Ian McGettigan from the late Thrush Hermit as the flame blower in the video. Just wish Sloan was doing their CD release in Halifax like they did for BTB, I guess I'll have to wait til they put Halifax on their tour schedule! |

| i read an a review of "prety together". this guy said that the album would be better if it had hols and electronic sounds. that is the worst idea i have ever heard! DON'T CHANING A THING!! |
| Hey Liz! You will start to love Sloan more and more when u get to listen and get to know them. My brother got me into Sloan and now, I am a tottaly fanatic fan! You will be 2 :).
-Mary Kathleen Mac Master |
| i'm the girlfriend who was said to have been converted by Jeff. i wouldn't really say that i'm converted cuz i still listen to korn, rage, (hed)pe, soulfly, and others but i'm glad to have finally awakened to this growing appreciation of sloan. i only know about 10 songs so far but my favourites are stood up, coax me, bells on, penpals, deeper than beauty, and she says what she means. of course, i'll be joining mi amor at the guys' montreal show next sunday... that should be fun. (Jeff, i'm on the net, too! and i luuuuuuuuuuuuvvv you, too.) ;) |
| *laughs! Andrew.. if I could pair up with you, I would. :) I never been to a Sloan concert yet, could you spare me some tickets.. hehe. I can take my dad's car and drive all the way there "I wish" I am only aloud using the car for important causes. Hey, this is so important to mee! My ownly wish in the world and won't come my way.#sniff#. Come to Antigonish Andrew and pick me up.. *laughs!!!:))

Ah, I am Kathleen Mac Master :) Hi!! Jeff from USA! =) How are you.? :)
-Mary Kathleen Mac Master |
| This is a really good song but it's got a modern edge to it (aka:samples, drum loops). Personally, I like the sound of the "Twice Removed" album. But I will remain loyal to SLOAN! I also converted my girlfriend to Sloanism. Can't wait for the Club Soda show. Hi Liz, I'm on the "internet". Love ya!:P |
| i love my boyfriend peter and i love sloan. |
| the song rocks out. we just need to hear it live in detroit now. |
| Great song, cant wait to buy the CD, and if Sloan ever did decide to play in Santa Cruz, I'd go there (I live in Utah, long drive but it would be worth it) |
| Hey everyone!
I love "If it feels good do it"...just the name.. I mean, it's just one of those songs that gets you all pumped up and ready to have a good time...and it makes you feel good..about yourself and your music...the video is also total eye candy...the lighting, the way the colors work together...i love the people who speak their mind on rock n roll and i love the kiss intro, i didn't even know it was fromkiss til i read it in sloan's comments..that's awesome..uhh yeah it rocks..i'm gonna go listen to it now..c ya |
| Why is every other comment here from Kathleen MacMaster? |
| I never get tired of hearing it... it's a soul-shakin' achievement. Hooray! (It's my duty to report that northern Californians are Sloan-deprived and despairing as a result...Santa Cruz, in particular, has some lovely concert venues. C'mon you guys, take the lollipop and get in the car! :-) |
hey there boyz, just checkin' up with the sloan site. luv the work, here. I taped the new video off of Much Music, and it was funny cause I went back and watched the old 'lines you amend' vid after, it's interesting to see how you guys have matured over the years. style, music... I think it's great. you guys can rock, from garages to the stadium, all the way. this year is gonna be the lift. I'll see you guys on the 25th here in Toronto, till then, take care of each other. take it easy, sarah P.S. luv Pat's new 'do' sorta like navy blues days, except more recent. and as for Andy, 'ba ba bada ba!!' chris, kiss rocks! and jay, I luv your little tie in the vid! it's so cool! |
| Hey Chris,
Way to keep Wheatley happy, by keeping KISS ALIVE in your music.
He and his wife had a little boy "Leo".
Love your stuff, buy it everytime a new album comes out. Came along way from the halls of that V.G.
I'll catch your show @ MacKuan Hall in Calgary.
Shawn "Frogger" |
| Great Andrew! I am glad my talk made you understand :)) Still a Sloany fan, HI-5 :) Good-night.
-Mary Kathleen Mac Master |
| ok, maby I was a little crazy when I said all those things about Sloan my other comments. I guess this album is just a different style, but I still prefer the older style. |
| Show Detroit some Luuv, bring some dates to the D |
| Sorry Andrew I don't know about what they are playing on their tours... Hehe, I never went to a concert in my life so, I have no certain idea what they do. Sorry
-Mary Kathleen Mac Master |
| what the hell is this, if jt feals good do it rocks, but I lisened to the others and there all a bunch sissy of soft bjork like tunes. I have been a Sloan fan since I wan like in greade 5, but these song are going to suck it realy fuck'n hard when you play them live. This is a major dissipiontment! Get your balls out of the root selor and play some fucking ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!! |
| hey, are the boys only going to be playing songs from prety together on their prety together ture? Pleas email me and tell me the deal. |
| I've got everyone of your albums guys, and am still waiting for that songwriting consistency. I placed comments in each song, to summarize:
Great songs: 1, 11, 12 Good songs: 6,9 OK songs: 2,5 Mediocre: 3,4,7,8,10,13
There's some fantastic songwriting on this album, but I wish it were more solid throughout. Sounds like a lot of personal grief coming through on this one (too much). Keep at it - you're sooo talented. |
| Straight-ahead and fun. Great hooks and harmonies. Effortless. |
Oh my goodness! Sloan in Quebec City??? How COOL is that!! See you there! If it feels good, go for it !!!!!! :)))) |
| Dig the new sight! Dig the new single!! Sloan is my favorite band ever. They mean so very much to me. Don't lose California... |
| I have got lots to say, dont take this to seriously!do ya get it? ha ha ha! The vidio is great, but I don't know obout the lether. Lether realy expensive, how am I sopesed to dress like the boys when they are in lether. I guess I will just have to stik to the good old blue jeens and fitted shirts! Rock and Roll is alive an alright! |
| this song kicks ass.....woooooooohoooooooooo.my kinda tune.On your next album put more tunes like this 1 on it |
| What is Rock n' Roll all about?
Its an attitude. A way of walking. A state of mind. Hair that would rather be a mess then clean cut. Wrinkly clothes. Going three days without showering.
or best of all just living.
"In order to die we must have first lived"
Rock is alive and well....sloooooooaaaaaaaaan!!!!!! |
| I was wondering why the song "Pretty Together" isn't on the new album? I think that's a good song.
And I love the new video |
| I love the new single, it kicks ass , it's got sloans good old 60's sound with a little bit of bite to it, I have to say as a drummer myself keep up the Keith moon crazy drum fills Andrew and keep the classic sound of Sloan going. |

sloan f--ing rocks! I've been a KISS fan for 20 yrs now (since age 5), and I have to even say Patrick, Jay, Chris, and Andrew of SLOAN have had an equal impact on my musical world in the 2 years since I've discovered them. and SLOAN tickets are much more affordable! keep up the rock guys!! |
| Melbourne, Australia requires R.O.C.K. Help us Sloan. You're our only hope. |
| Please come back to the south (of the United States). I'm probably Alabama's biggest Sloan fan...so please come back...even if it does involve booking a gig at a converted 7-11 here in Birmingham. |
| This is just the song that I wanted and have been waiting for from the anxiously awaited next record. I can't wait for the US tour. great work guys! |
