2. In the Movies
Who’s next? Why it’s Andrew with this momentous bit of Moon-struck atomic pop.

ANDREW: "This is actually the first record that we’ve done in a long time where I wasn’t really listening to anything while we were recording, I wasn’t appropriating or borrowing. I was just going in blind, being more influenced by what everyone else was doing and vice versa, kind of playing off one another."

Whoa. Cool AC/DC lead-in. This is such a great CD.

I'm just not a big fan of Andrew's songs. It surprised me that some people think that his song's are the best on this and the last couple of albums. But thankfully everyone has their own tastes, and I credit Andrew in that his songs are very distinct from the rest of the band... I just don't like 'em.

Beats me Secret Attack, don't have a clue whatsoever. Ah, repeatin' that over & over is pretty neat-o in my terms. My opinion of course :)) *laughs, ignore me, I am beein' silly.

the singer/writer of guided by voices cuts a song with the who.. that is meant as a compliment.

at first this song didn't grab me, but after the 5th or 10th time around i think it started making sense, and i felt that i really dug the concept....but now.. i think i lost it.... i took a few weeks off of my "new sloan record scrutinizing session" and i have completely new relationships with all of the songs. but sadly this means that i now hate this song a lot for some reason.... i think its probably because the worst line in the entire song is "do it in a movie" and they start repeating it from the start and proceed to say it about 800 more times.... it bugs me okay? otherwise has some nice ray davies delivery.... i am flabbergasted at the physical resemblance andrew now seems to have with stewart copeland.... what can you do?

Right on baby! right on!. Groovy as can be. :)

andrew scott: rock and roll MVP 2001. this is part one of "pretty together's trilogy of topnotch new AS tunes. i just can't believe how great this is, no matter how many times i listen to it... can't wait for the solo album...

One of the best songs on the album. A strictly Sloan feel to it.
Posted by Mark @ 01/01/2002 10:33 PM EST

This is a great song, one of the best you've ever done. Continue on that way man! You're the best Andrew.

The Who was the first thing to come into my mind when I heard this one. I like it, though.
Posted by Timmerbo @ 12/02/2001 03:51 PM EST

Almost forgot -- the verdict's still out on whether Andrew emotes the word "autobahn" like a slow-motion acrobat. But that's my feeling.
Posted by Erin @ 11/30/2001 07:28 AM EST

plimsoul -- I like that analogy, but I think while Mr. Scott writes and sings like a painter, he plays like a gourmet chef who moonlights as a shiatsu masseur.

Sounds like you had Keith Moon in a dream, sounds somewhat like the Who, but still a great song. And the drumming isn't bad.

A great Andrew's classic as delivering maybes and 400 metres. The emotion in this song is very high, the minor chords give to this song a lot of coulor. It's one of my favorite. This song grooves, good job on the guitar, good druming too.

the guy writes and sings like a painter.

best song on the new lp. should have been issued as a the first single. very un-sloan sounding, but thats the best part. great production.

The opening sounds like a style used by many metal bands, like Extreme, when they are winding down a little. As others have said, Andrew's songs are usually the most creatively written, but the music takes some time to appreciate for its depth. Here we have a great combination of Andrew's lyric and a rockin' tune.
Posted by Peter Skov @ 11/03/2001 12:37 AM EST

The first time I heard this tune, I wasn't sure what to make of it because Andrew's songs are usually very textured in terms of sound, and not as initially infectious as Patrick's tunes, which tend to be the more commercial ones. That's what I love about Sloan, though. Each member contributes different types of songs and proclaims their influences, but yet of all their differences, they always make very cohesive albums. He makes good use of tempo changes and always experiments with unique lyrics and intricate as well as challenging rythm so that the bits and pieces are randomly linked and connected together like a collage of sound. It often takes a few listens to figure out Andrew's tunes and get a feel for them, but this is now one of my favourite tracks on the album. It ranks up there with other favourites of mine such as the N.S., Delivering Maybes,On the Horizon and 400 meters. It's a great song and the drum fillers rock!Andrew's tunes always take you off guard, but grow on you and that's precisely what makes them so charming and engaging. This is a very strong contribution.

Andrew's songs are clearly the best again as they have been for the past couple of albums. Damn this guy can write......i wanna write like him !
Posted by grishnachk @ 10/20/2001 12:07 PM EST

I find this tune brings a tinge of AC/DC or even some kinda of non elemntal new rock groove that's gonna catch on. It's sounds at first like there's a bit of Tremolo on the guitar's, but after a listen or 2, I think it's just the way the 2 guitars clash together or how the notes are played. awsome tune, one of my faves to add to the list.

(A) No, there's nothing Dido about this song. But the thought of Sloan rearranging and covering a Dido number is really, really amusing to me, and if any of the boys actually stumbles upon that concept (yeah, right) I think they ought to give it a go.

(B) I definitely hear the Moon influence. But then again, I hear it in a lot of Andrew's work. That said, I think he's the best thing that happened to a kit since Stewart Copeland.

I really know how to run my mouth around here, don't I? Yeah.

Posted by Erin @ 10/18/2001 05:37 AM EST

That opening guitar sounds very ACDC.

The Who with guest drummer Ringo playing "Get Back." OK.
Posted by JP @ 10/06/2001 10:42 PM EST

it's a rockin tune

I badly want to hear this song, Andrew you take keith moon, john bonham , ringo starr and Ian pace and make one crazy style of drumming , I aspire to be as good and as talented a drummer as you and I think Im almost as good, no not really but Id love to some day have my own band open up for you guys and we could have a drum fill competition that would rock!
Posted by Tim @ 10/05/2001 09:41 PM EST

I haven't heard it yet, but I can only imagine that if it's an Andrew song then it's got to be fantastic... His songs are my favorite ones..the most interesting, and musically perplex...And I love it when he borrows from other people...On "N.S" how can you mistake the Lennon-sounding vocal/piano..and "Delivering Maybes", sounds almost too Steely/Doobie Bros-ish to be true!! I love every bit of it!! And From "One Chord To Another" how about the Beautifully borrowed bit in "B-side Always wins" which HAD to have come from The Beatles "You Know My Name, Look Up the Number"...Check it out.. Andrew Scott, you are one mysterious M.F...God love ya! XO

This song has nothing to do with Dido. It is far more clever and fantastic.

Andrew songs are always cool. I like the drum fill at the beginning because it doesn't start where you'd expect it to.
