8. Never Seeing the Ground for the Sky
Tune in, turn on, rock out.

ANDREW: "This was actually a Maker’s Mark [Andrew’s long-defunct side-band with the Sadies’ Dallas Good and Mike Belitsky] song a long time ago but I never had words for it, so I basically rekindled that. The thing was we had so much time and we had so many bits and pieces, that everybody was just pulling out the old standards that’ve kept coming up for years. We’re just cleaning house, cleaning out the cupboards. It’s often the stuff that you leave behind is still valid a long time down the road."

Oh Sloan;
What can I say, you've been my most favorite band since twice removed. I was only about 12 when that cd was introduced to me but, boy did I ever fuckin'rock out to it.
In fact I still do. I miss the days of the twice removed sound. Don't get me wrong I love every cd and song ever since. In my opion though nothing compares to it. You guys write such a wicked pop tune I just loved 50's feel. I do applaud your latest cd, it seems to have depth to it and its a sound like no other.

I LOVE YOU SLOAN!!!!! STAY COOL!!!!

Yea he does. :) I wish I could play some instrument, I'm not born to play ): Well I guess I never had a instrument right in front of me all times and actually practice but, I am such a slow learner, specially on that. Now I know why I failed music class ):

Anyways, yea Andrew is too awesome on the drums :)

Andrew Scott has to be the most talented drummer currently. The creativity displayed in the song structure here is incredibly huge.

Right on!!!
Rock on peacefully :P :D :) ;) :Q :I

This song simply rocks out...And it's a great fucking song!! Umm...riddle me this?? Do bands like The Strokes write good songs like this?? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... Do bands like The Strokes sound as diverse, or are they as talented as bands like SLOAN?? I think we all know the answer.. I'm so sick of the god-damned hype of that shitty band.. Long live great bands, Like SLOAN..

I don't think that at my age my hormone's would be gettin' messed up. ;)

I get out... somewhat *laughs*. mostly when I want to take the car.

Ms MacMaster! Get back in your seat. Do put a leash on your wild hormones, or you'll scare away our guests.

She needs to get out, really, and yet you can't take her anywhere.

Lets make it up to them. All us lasses here in Nova Scotia will take 40 or more buses and take the roads to Toronto. We search our little butts off to find Sloan. When we do, we will charage them like wild animals and smother them with kisses & hugs. Now now, take turns.. *laughs! I get the last kiss to Jay, my idea!!!

Yea!!!!!!!!! This song has a sweet beat to it. But the bad thing about it is that, when I was jumpin around in da house to da song while my parents were out, I slipped and fell and hurted my ankle.. *laughs! oh well.. I'll do it all over again even If I have da chance of fallin' again- heyyy the floor was slippery, not my fault *laughs. Hmm.. I think I'll do it again..hehehe.. I'l birl around this time. :))) gettin' banged up whatever is a everyday life to me... *laughs

the only thing that sucks about this song is that it is the last andrew song on the record. try to count this one out... the sort of song i constantly wish i could write. threepeat for mr. scott.
Posted by slowworm @ 01/10/2002 07:45 AM EST

this song only stands to show that clearly, rock and roll is not dead.
keep it up boys!!!

Bah! Saying it 6 times is not going to make this song amazing.

Isn't that kind of like stuffing a ballot box or something? :)

only 15 replies 4 this song? Thats crazy, this song rocks.i think it's the best 1 on the album

I think the first time I heard some of this song is when Narduaar was interviewing Chris in Vancouver during the "mixing" segments. Rocking Tune!
Posted by Marc Cormier @ 11/14/2001 07:43 AM EST

The opening chords hammer in like early '80s AC/DC, but some guitar sounds are reminiscent of Black Sabbath Vol 4. This song thumps. I think this is how Sabbath might have sounded had Andrew been singing for them in 1972.

the very beginning sounds like it's going to turn into a radiohead song.

overall brilliant disc

best song on the album 4 sure

also,JP, does JP=Jl Pt? u fill in the blanks

This is the best track on the album....just have to always skip straight to it.I hope the next release is an Andrew solo album.

Smooth album. Well recorded! Never Seeing the ground for the sky and the great wall are, in my opinion, the best tracks.
I didn't like the album on my first listen, but then again, I have never liked a Sloan album after one listen. They always release something that I am not expecting, (which is a good thing.) so it always takes me a while to get into it. Pretty Together shows some maturity from the band! Good job.

this song I like a lot. luv it actually. the transition from the heavy rock like intro to that steady funky riff in the middle is awsome! rock on!

I saw the show in Peterborough last night and was looking forward to a live performance of this song. Andrew's songs have something in them which set them apart. Despite crazy sound problems and missed video cues, the show last night was amazing. I picked up the album this morning, and I love it. The time that was put into it is evident, as well as the teamwork and colaboration.

This sample rocks
Posted by Andy @ 10/12/2001 11:43 AM EST

I find the harmonies too predictable and grating.

My idea of a goooooooood sloan tune.I wish all of your tunes sounded like this 1
Posted by the penguin @ 10/06/2001 12:10 AM EST

His Excellency the Right Honourable Andrew Scott says:

*The thing was we had so much time and we had so many bits and pieces, that everybody was just pulling out the old standards that’ve kept coming up for years. We’re just cleaning house, cleaning out the cupboards. It’s often the stuff that you leave behind is still valid a long time down the road.*

[Expletive], but these boys are onto something: Art needs time to ferment! (I guess a less-jaded-sounding analogy might be gestation or something, but...I'm too damn proud.) I'm salivating profusely. Would that wacky release date just GET here, already?

Posted by Erin @ 09/27/2001 07:04 AM EST

Ya, this song is amazing...
This ENTIRE ALBUM IS FUCKING AMAZING AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT.... WOW.. way to go lads.
