13. Your Dreams Have Come True
And now we lay you down to sleep. With horns.
PATRICK: "Probably 30 per cent of this comes from a demo I did at home. There’s a drum machine and a drum loop — Brenndan played that — and there’s a keyboard thing I did myself at home. The horn solo is actually eight performances I cut up and stuck together to try and make it way more busy. I was working on it at home one day, and I had put Miles Davis on in the living room and my girlfriend came out of the shower and heard the Miles Davis horns clashing with the song I was working on and liked it, so I sampled this Miles Davis stuff and stuck it in. But of course we couldn’t use the samples because of legal problems, so we got a guy in to basically play along. Before we put that in, I had this total Randy Rhodes guitar solo in there."

| O.k for one, I love the song, and the use of horns just amplifies the calming mood, you listen, the cd ends, and you go on with life with a nice calm emothion, unless you have it on random, or repeat, either way...whatever. |

| i think this is the worst song they have evr written. only because it sounds like they have given up rock n roll and are wanting to be the next N-Sync!!! sorry this song is extremely gay!! live on navy blues!!!! |
| Sorry, Toots, that was me. I was just loving the sounds of the song, swaying my head and going AAaAAaaaA. Then I got a kink in my neck and I said AAAAHh! But you didn't hear that now, did you? |
Okay, I want to know who goes AAaAAaaaA at 1:45 <-- close to da middle. It says that my CD player- I really think it's Jay doin' it but, I ain't postive on it. Can someone please tell me?-'cause I am really eager to know. thanxs

| Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. I want to hear this song every night before I go to sleep. But then I'd have to get up and turn off the CD player and it would ruin the mood blah blah blah.....mmmmmmmm I like this song. |

Anyone like my new nick?! *laughs! ah I am just testin', anyways. This song doesn't remind me of myself whatsoever. I love the song but.. "Your Dreams Have Come True"-ain't true for me ); I NEVER get any dreams come true. Especially the one I am just about to die for!-Meetin' the 1 and only Sloan in concert #sniff#. Will my dream ever come true? I just have to wait for it, if it comes that is. Ah, I wish they pop out of the PC and come right in my room, that be so kool but, comical at the same time. *laughs. I'll be like, heres a teddy bear for you, you, you, and you. MmMMMMmm.. I am just thinkin' now.. well.. wonderin' and tryin' to picture how wonderful it be to kiSS Jay. It be like the world endin', heaven on earth. The world be spinnin' with romantic emotions that clutter together that makes my internal love for him *Smooooooooooooooooches* 4 Jay :)) love ya Jay!!!

| Beautiful! Sloan gets better with every record they produce. All of the tracks on this record show immense songwriting maturization from all four brilliant songwriters. Very smart songs, but yet, not too smart to ROCK! |
| why do they (almost) always end their LP's with these worthlessly lightweight Patrick songs? they should have just left it off. another example of digital tools making for lazy music. borong boring boring. the sort of thing 40 year olds would have thought was "interesting" ten years ago. the only good part is the bacharachesque horn figure at the end- write a good song and stick that horn part in it and you might have something. other than that, i could not be less impressed. |
| Thus ends Sloan's masterpiece, the one their career has been building up to. Ironic that they used "Smeared" as a model. It's not as good as that album, because aside from tracks 1, 2 and 5, they've sort of lost the teenage kicks - but this is their studio masterpiece, and I can honestly say that not a note or lyric is out of place. And as much as Chris says they're beyond irony now, much of it is still hilarious as always. Good work guys; one of the best comeback albums since "Who Are You." Actually, it has lots in common with that album. |

| Randy Rhodes guitar solo? Perhaps it's just as well that they chose to go with the horns instead... |
| Sorry to use the page for this but Mariko, I would like to talk to you more. I live in Saitama. Please send me email if you can. iwamori71@yahoo.ca. All appologies to other Sloan fans who want to read song reviews, and not a personals page. Really sorry, but I want Sloan friends. The band is really the best. |
| A great idea Peter. I'm Japanese, and I love Sloan. I love this song... I'm listening over and over again. |
So, it was Davis? Excellent touch. Great harmony. What Sloan will always be known for. Nice close to the album. From Peppermint to Pretty... I have seen the band do so much with music it's astounding. My only regret is that I may have to wait 2 years for the next album. In the mean time, why don't you guys release an album of b-sides and overseas material. There are a few Sloan songs I have never heard and can't get. Your Japanese releases at least come with a bonus track or two, but there must be many gems out there that real Sloan fans would love to have on one disk. You could throw on a couple of new tracks as well, or combine it with a Sloan anthology and make a double disk, thus attracting those people who always liked the radio tunes but never actually bought a Sloan album (shame on them). Over here in Japan I have read you guys are big, but I haven't met anyone who knows about you yet. Next week I'm doing a favourite band project with some high school students. You can bet I'll be letting them hear a track off this jewel of a new album. |

Miles Davis + Sloan = So much goodness. Thank you. This one is excellent. -Erin PS: An alternate version featuring a Randy Rhoads-esque solo? Now that would be interesting to hear. Do I sense a potential B-Side..? |
| very cool, very different. there's a lot of mega sounds on this tune....you can really hear Patrick's want for some electronica sounds on this track. It's good, well written.....i really love this album! :) |

| i dont get it or like it... |

I luv this song so much, Pat you've done a heck of a job, the vocals are great, everything. the horns... nice touch. the horns remind me of a stereolab song, I can't remember which one though, I'm trying to think of it. uh... maybe it was 'captain easychord'. I think that's it. well, if I'm wrong. it's a Stereolab song with paino and horns. I think I'm right, though. I don't know why it reminds me of it. 'Your dreams have come true' is much more mellow and jazzy-ish. Stereolab's is up beat. maybe it's just the horns clashing and mixing with the instruments. take it easy, sarah/ash Toronto, Canada |

| well, where to start???????.....rather than post comments for each individual song, i opted for the big ending - SHA-BANG!!!! like your last album, there aren't any (or many) skippers on this album.....congratulations......that's tough to do nowadays......you record all the songs YOU want to hear and they eventually become all the songs WE want to hear......like the last guy who wrote something before me, i saw a sloan member downtown the other day.....it was chris and he was at sam's buying stuff, carrying a hockey stick.....whatever.......he seemed happy.......he also seemed anxious and antsy.......apparently, that's chris.......i can see why he was anxious, though......these songs are very good......i'd want the whole country to hear 'em too......so moody......well mixed.....perfect choice of instrumentation and effects on either the whole of the song or the specific instruments - it's a good one to listen to with big coconut-headphones!!!!!.....they grew up a lot......there's no need for tambourine in EVERY song (i realized they liked old-school, loud percussion alla maccartney on one chord and removed)......you done gone and done some good by holding back on the tambourine on this one, fellas......everything is perfect........anyhoo, blah blah blah.......thanks for giving us good music......looking forward to playing with you again (remember sudbury in sept. '98?)

| It's strange. I work at 179 John Street, and a few weeks ago I was leaving work, and Patrick was right out front of my building on a cell phone. He looked really angry. I figured he was having a fight with whoever was on the other end, so I didn't approach him and shower him with compliments. But it got me to thinking: ever since he cut his hair (after twice removed), he seems to be angry. And then I hear this song... he doesn't seem angry at all. I'm so confused. |
| his song reminds me of "loosens" off of "Twice Removed" |
| Oh I am sorry. I missed to say that, the name Mind Omelet by my email address is, I think, a album title Sloan had created for their newly album but instead, naming it 'Pretty Together'. I love the name Mind Omelet, it's a wonderful, unique name to come up with and so is Pretty Together (Yea, I give my life that their songs are pretty well put together):. Pretty terrific :) |
| #sniff#, No KashGlenBarn I never heard of "NPH". Maybe my brother does. Nice to meet you KashGlenBarn. Where are you from.? Did you just replied your within 2 hours away from where I live.? |
| I like, I like, but I won't be able to wrap my mind around the album before October 16th... Maybe Gorky's will satisfy until then?
Mind_Omelet68@hotmail.com... Why does that e-mail address sound familiar? Kathleen, you wouldn't be a NPH fan, would you? Would be amazing if there was another fan within two hours of me (which Antigonish Harbour basically is)... |
| Pardon me?.. I don't understand you mean by that Loucious. Escarpment.? Why would I want to go down a steep hill.? *Ponder* |
| Kathleen, you want get some D'Angelo records and some fresh bread and head down to the escarpment? |

| As I lay down in my bed wanting my dream to come true. To land in the palm of my hands and carry myself all along the way. I say "Wishes come true when you want them to come true." Over and over repeated in my head as they are turned over from my heart, as I lay once again in my bed and wondering If my dream shall come true. Beleiving as I am now, still, in deep thought of this and, the heart whispers, my soul crumples. Knowing dreams come true if you make them to. I steady myself along the side of the bed, tremble of the thought of my heart breaking, the dream fading away as I almost reached for it. I cling to the bed bar tightly in faintness, knowing dreams only come true if you make them to. In the tub filled with Holly water I look into it, eye to eye trying to face the truth of my only dream. Secretly, the voices beyond life was spooken to me. Was tolden not to be affraid to the only truth. I hide in my room and lock my door to not hear the truth. But why? I ask to myself, why do I hide. I wanted and waited for this time to come. Unlock it as I did, slowly follow my way back to the truth of it all. The words were spooken to me once again "Not to be affraid to the only truth". I stood highly in demand for it. But, there was silient in the open space of the room. My thoughts in wonder, shall wait for the words to be told to me. There, I heard the whisper "Shall not be affraid of the only truth". I scream "Well please tell me it then!". A moment of silience then, I heard was the words that I have allready known from the start "Dreams only come true if you want them to."
p.s I just started writing and ended up with this.. hehe. "Tell me what you think of it" |
