"String of Pearls" is a greatest hits collection comprised of
14 tracks culled from 14 years of great music!! 'Man in the Moon', which
first appeared on "Oyster Tracks", has been revamped and now features
Chris Whiteley, his son Dan and the voice of his daughter Jenny on backing
vocals! Prairie Oyster shot a video for the new single recently on 35
mm film at both the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern & Toronto Island. CMT
Canada added the new video straight out of the box!! The revised single,
'Man In The Moon' also took the coveted #1 most added spot at Americana
radio in the U.S. this past week beating out Neil Young and Joe Ely.
Prairie Oyster's passion for music is best demonstrated in their commitment
to touring & performing live over the past fourteen years!
Prairie Oyster is one of this continent's most creative country and
roots-music driven ensembles having blazed it's own trail while marching
to the beat of pioneers past. Like a few other great Canadian acts,
The Band comes to mind, Prairie Oyster was a fine-tuned live act, long
before becoming a recording act. Equally at home in honky-tonks, campus
dance halls, or at festivals, this band started winning over listeners
with a long list of engaging original songs.
The band's fanbase extends across it's homeland down to Texas where
it has pockets of devotees. Additionally, Prairie Oyster has gained
enormous respect from artists who head down similar musical paths. Producer
Steve Fishell, ex of Emmylou Harris's Hot Band, called Prairie Oyster,
"a band that has the same musical integrity as Los Lobos."
Coincidentally Steve Berlin of Los Lobos ended up producing one of Oyster's
discs. The late Doug Sahm of Texas Tornados fame considered Prairie
Oyster one of the finest honky-tonk outfits of the last quarter century.
It has also been commonplace over the years to see members of the band
sitting in or recording with kindred spirits such as Jo-El Sonnier,
Marty Stuart, Sahm, or Carlene Carter when the opportunities presented
themselves.
Yes Prairie Oyster has won many awards, 6 JUNOs in fact, along with
11 Canadian Country Music Awards, 14 RPM Big Country Awards and one
prestigious nomination for an ACM Best New Country Group Award. This
is a band that continues to gain, thanks to a constant desire to produce
unique and vibrant music.
Prairie Oyster is not a band that can be pegged "new country"
this or "alt country" that, it is simply a killer band with
deep roots tapped into many rich sources. The music speaks for itself.
